The mayor of Atlanta believes the city will be successful in getting a new football stadium built despite opposition to a hotel-motel tax plan to help fund the nearly $1 billion project.

Mayor Kasim Reed said he is confident an agreement can be brokered, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He says the new stadium will help the city compete for a Major League Soccer franchise and said it was a “false choiceâ€￾ when asked if money from a hotel-motel tax could be used on more pressing projects such as those involving transportation.

The Falcons have been pushing for a stadium to replace the Georgia Dome and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has visited in the last year in an effort to help push the issue.
