Bears KR Devin Hester No Lock For Roster Spot

The Chicago Bears don't even allow Devin Hester to wear the same colored jersey as the other Bears wide receivers in practice, he's a return man, and a return man only, but is a he return man who's guaranteed to make the roster?

CSNChicago.com's John Mullin wrote Sunday night that Hester is just "working to hold on" to the primary return job in offseason practice. Other players like Earl Bennett have been returning kicks in practice and Bears coach Marc Trestman has said that Hester is "competing" to win the returner job.

The Bears have given up on Hester playing a role on offense. Since he's due $1.85 million this season, the Bears are giving him every chance to earn his worth as a return man only. If Trestman doesn't think Hester can be a difference-maker after watching him in training camp, it's still possible Hester won't even make the team.

We knew this day would come. It's all about the money as usual.

The Bears have effectively reduced his trade value with this WR bullcrap...

After a year like last year, he shouldn't be a lock for a roster spot in 2013.

He should really stick it to the Bears and sign with the Packers.

If it's to play WR, then you guys can have him.

If anything can make him a good WR, its getting cut by the Bears, going to their greatest rival and playing with the best QB in the world.

Now, if Hester where to go to Green Bay and play with Rodgers, that would require him catching passes that are 100% on target for him and not dropping them if he is going to be made into a good WR.

Apples to oranges when you are comparing how a WR might do with Rodgers vs Cutler.

Hester should've been playing slot on O and nickel on D. Throw in the return game and that's it

Yeah but Devin Hester playing WR, period, regardless of the QB is a LOL moment.

No, actually more like apples to apple sauce where 1 you get a real WR to 2 where you get a watered down version of 1.

It's never been who's trying to get the ball to him but of his route running/surprising lack of separation & his inability to find the seams in a zone.

Rodgers would have as much luck finding #23 on the field as the Feds just did finding Hoffa in a field.

Hester's specialty and gift was always as a return man. Hope he makes the roster but if not he'll do good for another team returning kickoffs/punts.

    Agreed 100%...

Kickoffs and punts are Hester's bread and butter. IF Hester does make the roster out of training camp, atleast Marc Trestman will not try to shove him down our throats as a #1 WR like our last head coach did for 3 or 4 years.
