The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won’t wear their infamous “creamsicle†orange throwback uniforms for their Sept. 29 game against the Arizona Cardinals because of an NFL health and safety ruling, the team announced.

The league sent a memo to all 32 teams last month approving a recommendation by the league’s Head, Neck and Spine Committee forbidding teams from switching helmets during the season.

“This offseason, we communicated a recommendation from the Head, Neck and Spine Committee and the Player Safety Advisory Panel to those teams planning to wear throwback uniforms for at least one game this season,†NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said via email Tuesday afternoon. “They recommended that players no longer wear different helmets as part of a ‘throwback’ or ‘third’ uniform.â€

The Player Safety Advisory Panel is chaired by Hall of Famers John Madden and Ronnie Lott.

The committee wants to prevent players from wearing multiple helmets during the season for safety reasons.

“We are excited to celebrate and honor the Hispanic heritage that has had such a profound impact on our community,†said Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. “While we regret that our players will not be able to don the ‘Bucco Bruce’ helmet and traditional orange, red and white uniforms, there simply was no acceptable way to meet the requirements of the new policy while staying true to the spirit of our throwback theme. We will continue to explore options with the league office for bringing back this fan favorite in future seasons.â€

I dont even get this, why can't they just make a run of x color helmets to the same specs as the ones they are currently wearing and call it good? Also, what do the creamsicles have to do with honoring Hispanic heritage?

Yeah because using a new helmet rather than one that has suffered damage throughout the season would be much more hazardous to the players health...

Sounds like a cop out from the Bucs, just curious as to why.
