The Kansas City Chiefs are cutting linebacker Cameron Sheffield to create a roster spot for linebacker Tamba Hali as he comes off a one-game suspension for violating the NFL drug policy, according to a league source.

Sheffield is a former fifth-round draft pick from Troy.

Sheffield, a 6-foot-2, 257-pounder, played in every game last season and recorded nine tackles. He started once.

Sheffield missed his entire rookie season with a neck injury.

Sheffield, 24, played both outside linebacker and defensive end in college.
