Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson faces a four-game suspension this season after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, according to multiple reports. Neither the Eagles nor the NFL had any comment on the reports. The pending suspension was first reported by the Philadelphia Daily News. Johnson, 24, was the Eagles' first-round draft choice in 2013, the fourth player taken overall. He started all 17 games, including the Eagles' playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints. Last year, the Eagles' offensive line benefited from remarkable continuity. All five linemen started all 17 games in coach Chip Kelly's first season. The line helped running back LeSean McCoy lead the NFL in rushing and quarterback Nick Foles establish himself as the starter. Assuming the reports are accurate, that continuity will be impossible in 2014. The Eagles' first four games are against Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Washington and San Francisco. Based on his 2014 salary of $495,000, the four-game suspension will cost Johnson $116,470, or four game checks. Johnson received a $12.8 million signing bonus last year as part of a four-year, $20 million contract. Source: ESPN
i do not understand any of these guys! the league will catch them and suspend them, wtf do they even try?
Theyll be fine now. But eventually they are going to be counting on him to be their LT. Losing a RT for 4 games isnt catastrophic, but losing an LT for a season could be.
I think opposing defenses will have had time to make adjustments to Kelly's fast paced offense. It's Kelly's turn to adjust.
Updated news... Last night, TMZ reported that Johnson had recently beaten his wife senseless... In other news... Today, the NFL announced the situation has been re-evaluated & the suspension has been cut to 2 games.
no adjustments needed against the cowboys. that defense may make people forget the eagles d squad from the last two seasons.
just saying that the Saints defense was 32 two years ago and went to 4th. so it can be done. except we had more talent. and a better defensive cordinator. Dallas should have tried to get him. Oh wait. You did have him. Never mind.
but to the original post. Can he be another Tony Manderich? Steroid user that never amounted to much in the pros?
The Eagles are without Avant and Jackson. Together last year, they accounted for 120 catches, 1,779 receiving yards, and 11 TDs. Are you saying they won't be missed?
well 1st off the response was about lane johnson missing four games but to answer this question - not as much as you're hoping - kelly's offense is not about going downfield so losing the team's best down the field threat may not be as bad as opposing Dc's are wishing for. avant ? really ? we should be worried about losing avant ? even a hobbled maclin can easily double avant's best stats.
the defenses in the nfce as whole are not very good. hopefully the eagles have made enough changes to hold teams under 20 per game.
