Falcons QB Matt Ryan, who missed the first game of his NFL career last week, has made progress as he recovers from a turf toe injury. Coach Mike Smith is hopeful Ryan can practice this week and said not to rule him out of Sunday's game against the Saints. No matter whether Ryan returns or Chris Redman has to start another game, the Falcons must get back to the core of their attack -- running the ball -- as the Falcons are 1-4 in games this season when they've thrown more than 40 passes, the only victory being a 20-17 win over Tampa Bay.
