Jaguars new GM David Caldwell told reporters that he’s not ready to give up on former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert.

“He is still young,†Caldwell said, via the Florida Times Union. “He’s had two different offensive coordinators in his first two years. Get a coach in here and get some sustainability for him. I think it’s important to see what he can do. … I always thought Blaine was going to be a long-term project when he came out anyway.â€

Gabbert is still only 23 years old, so there’s time for him to develop into a much better player. Caldwell makes a great point about the fact that he’s been in 2 different offensive systems in as many years, so some stability is really what he needs if he’s ever going to live up to his first-round draft status.

Caldwell added that he expects to add two more quarterbacks to their roster during either the draft or free agency and has been adamant that they’ll hold an open competition for next year’s starting job.

“You never know. You’ve got to go through the process,’’ Caldwell said. “We’ll see maybe one identifies himself for us. It’s too early. Sometimes it may not look like there’s a quarterback now and you go through the process and you find a guy.’’

well, he's young but he basically needs a complete overhaul. someone is going to need to start over with him. they're going to need to break him down/tear him apart and then rebuild him.
