Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure missed his entire rookie season with a torn Achilles tendon. Following two marijuana-related arrests this offseason, Leshoure will have to wait until Week 3 of the 2012 regular season to make his NFL debut as he has been suspended for the first two games of the upcoming season. In addition to the suspension, Leshoure has been docked two additional game checks, bringing his total salary forfeiture to $109,412 of his $465,000 base salary. Leshoure was cited for marijuana possession following a traffic stop on I-94 in Michigan on February 18, Leshoure plead guilty a lesser offense and paid a small fine. Leshoure will be allowed to participate in training camp and the preseason before serving his suspension, he will be eligible to return for the Lions' Week 3 road game against the Tennessee Titans. "We support the Commissioner's decision regarding Mikel and appreciate the dialogue that we have had with the League office concerning the matter," Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement released by the team. "As we have previously stated, we expect every member of our organization to uphold a greater standard of behavior. If that standard is not upheld, those responsible will be held accountable. Our belief and expectation is that Mikel will continue to learn from this experience and use it as positive motivation moving forward."
