The Detroit Lions have released defensive end Keyunta Dawson, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Dawson's release clears a spot for the expected return of veteran cornerback Brandon McDonald, who tweeted on Wednesday night that he was returning the Lions. The 26-year-old McDonald had 17 tackles and a pass defensed in 11 games for the Lions, but was waived when the club added defensive tackle Jovan Haye. Dawson had one tackle in two games for the Lions, but with the return of Lawrence Jackson from a thigh injury, was expendable at a time when the Lions are likely going to be without Don Carey, who suffered a concussion in last Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders.
