The New Orleans Saints added some veteran competition at tackle as former No. 2 overall pick tackle Jason Smith agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Saints on Thursday, Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Smith spent last season with the Jets and New York released him in mid-February. The 6-foot-5, 308-pound tackle should compete with Charles Brown for the starting left tackle spot. But dubbing Smith as the starter would be completely premature. Smith, 26, was the second overall selection in the 2009 draft by St. Louis. He didn't exactly pan out for the Rams and is known for being a bust more than anything else in the NFL. Source: The Redzone
eh, at this point he's probably just for depth, especially if they got him to agree to a very low salary.
Our biggest concern is defense, so I think anything we get on offense isn't going to be a major move. Still I don't think it would be too hard to get a few up grades along that offensive line. Maybe he'll pan out, who knows?
He was the second overall pick a couple of years back. If he gets his head on straight he may be pretty good. And if anyone can get someone motivated it will be Coach.
