Will Jets Trade CB Antonio Cromartie, Not Darrelle Revis?

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports that there's a small segment of the organization that would rather trade Antonio Cromartie than Darrelle Revis, according to a source.

Cromartie's trade value never will be higher; he's coming off arguably his best year. A Cromartie trade would clear $8.2 million in cap room (only $2.5 million in dead money); a Revis trade would actually cost the Jets cap room ($12 million in dead money, as opposed to his current cap charge of $9 million).

Antonio Cromartie earned his second Pro Bowl invitation this season.
The Jets would have to move fairly quickly because Cromartie is due a $2.3 million roster bonus on the third day of the league year (March 15); Revis is due a $1 million roster bonus on the fifth day. It would take some handiwork from new GM John Idzik, because he'd have to sign Revis to a long-term extension before dealing Cromartie.

tough choice because cromartie had a good season the couple times i saw him play he was doing well vs top receivers. Is there a way they can keep both and cut some fat somewhere else?

If they are smart they'll unload a lot more than just Cromartie in hopes to build around Revis again...

These guys just throwing crap on the wall and seeing what sticks? The Jets have had a GM for like 5 days now, it's not like he walked in the door with all the answers and someone knows what he is going to do and is leaking this to the media. Give it a rest and speculate when you actually hear something you bunch of clowns!

well, this reporter is assuming Revis is going to play for his current contract. i'm not sure this has as much to do with cap space as it does actual cash outlay. If Revis is wanting the jets to hand him another $20 to $30 million in signing bonus/guaranteed money after they just got burned handing him a crapload of money then it really doesn't matter what anyone's cap number is.
