QB Start/Sit Rankings For Week 8
Kurt Turner | October 30, 2009As week 8 approaches, we see that there are a lot of top tier QBs out on bye weeks. Looking for a QB to fill in place of your stud? Check out this list and use it to decide on who to start!
When I rank these players, I usually separate them into skill tiers and then rank based on match ups. If a QB has a really bad match up, I’ll lower him considerably. If a QB has a great match up, he will raise on my rankings.
Also, if you need some extra help with your start/sit decisions, don’t be afraid to drop a line in our Start/Sit Advice here at Top Fantasy Football. We’d be happy to help!

Philip Rivers had a ho-hum game in week 1 against Oakland, but look for him to find his stride this week in this AFC West match up.
Week 8 Byes: Carson Palmer, Matt Cassel, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Josh Freeman, Jason Campbell
QB Rankings:
| Ranking | Quarterback Name | Match up | Notes |
| 1 | Peyton Manning | SF | Ranked above Brees because we know New Orleans can live win without Brees if needed. Indy would flounder without Manning. |
| 2 | Drew Brees | ATL | Those week 3 and week 4 goose eggs that he laid are still leaving a sour taste in my mouth but we know Brees is top notch, especially against suspect secondaries. |
| 3 | Tony Romo | SEA | Seattle is in the discussion for worst pass defense in the league. Time for more Romo + Miles connections! |
| 4 | Philip Rivers | OAK | Last time Rivers played OAK he was average. I feel like this time he will be much better though. |
| 5 | Jay Cutler | CLE | Even though the Browns are one of the worst teams against the run, they are also one of the worst against the pass. Cutler will be passing 30 times this weekend. |
| 6 | Matt Schaub | @BUF | Is it time to consider Schaub a top 5 QB? I think it is, if he can tear up Buffalo. Fun fact about Buffalo: They are tied with the Saints for most interceptions (13). |
| 7 | Joe Flacco | DEN | Denver can get to the quarterback |
| 8 | Donovan McNabb | NYG | The Giants are pretty good on defense, but not recently. I think McNabb can get the best of that unit this weekend with all his weapons. |
| 9 | Aaron Rodgers | MIN | Do you know how many sacks MIN has already? 25. Do you know how many times Aaron Rodgers has been sacked this season? Way too many. |
| 10 | Eli Manning | @PHI | New York vs. Philly…sounds familiar right? Eli Manning will hit a couple “homeruns” in this game. |
| 11 | Brett Favre | @GB | For some reason I think Green Bay will get the best of old man Favre, but he’ll still be good for 200 yards and a couple scores. Just watch out for a couple of interceptions in there too. |
| 12 | David Garrard | @TEN | Last time I suggested Garrard as a borderline QB1 because of match ups, he was terrible. How can you not like the match up against Tennessee though? Their secondary is young and impressionable |
| 13 | Kyle Orton | @BAL | Believe in the power of the neckbeard. |
| 14 | Kurt Warner | CAR | Teams just don’t pass it a lot on Carolina. Look for Beanie Wells to get more involved in the offense. |
| 15 | Vince Young | JAX | Vince Young is a winner in the NFL but can he be a fantasy star? For one week, I think he can. Jacksonville just plain stinks on defense. |
| 16 | Alex Smith | @IND | Alex Smith has some good times ahead of him, but not this week. Indy has 6 INT opposed to 2 TDs allowed through the air. |
| 17 | Marc Bulger | @DET | There have been signs of better days in STL, and the passing game gets a pass this weekend against Detroit’s poor pass defense. |
| 18 | Jake Delhomme | @ARI | I think the Panthers will be down most of the game, giving Delhomme lots of chances to pass. |

Sholty nice write up.. but I have an my opinion here too, not that you asked for it but… =)
David Garrard is going to be fine.. you said he was horrible last time he played Tenn but you had to make a mistake he had a QB rating of 126.3 tossed for 323 yard and had 0 picks with 3 TD. He also rushing for 38 yards.
Matt Schaub has a horrible matchup versus the Bills. The Bills have been shutting down the pass all year PLUS looking at what Houston has done against other strong secondaries like Oakland and the Jets I'm dropping Schaub way down on the list.
Flip flop Schaub and Garrard and you'll have my rankings pretty much.
wow Tenn looks like they are back with their corners back healthy and Young at QB!
Wait, Rodgers 9th? I have him ranked neck and neck with Brees this week. Certainly not behind Romo and Rivers.
It's hard to imagine Bulger facing a pass defense as bad as Detroit's without getting a couple of TDs, but it's a tough call.
I'm not trusting Bulger.. ever.. ever.. EVER
I'd start Vince Young over Bulger
anybody know where hasskeback ranks
I like Hasslebeck to have a decent day, but not spectacular. He plays much better at home than on the road, but I think against the Cowboys he'll still hit about 230 passing yards and 2 scores. I think he'll end the week somewhere between 9th and 12th in QB scoring. I certainly believe he'll have a better day than Orton, Delhomme, Young, Smith and Bulger.
Arizona's schedule is very favorable for Warner and Wells during the fantasy playoff weeks 14 15 16. If Bolden and Breaston could ever both become fully healthy, Warner's passing should improve. Watch for a possible QB change in Arizona if Warner has a bad game cause Leinhart can put up big numbers in the fantasy playoffs if he plays.

We are extremely excited about this superbowl. It is great shootout. I’ll pick the New Orleans Saints in a shoot out.
