2012 Fantasy Football Tight End Rankings

July 29, 2012 by Kurt Turner

Tight end, it's deep this year! One word of advice if you pass on Jimmy Graham or Rob Gronkowski, just wait until the later rounds and draft a performer with history and upside. Or go for some complete fantasy football sleepers like Kyle Rudolph or Kellen Davis (read this) even later.

TE Rank  Player Name  Team  Tight End Notes
1 Jimmy Graham NO His touchdown total will shock you, I'm not drafting last years number 1, as my number 1 tight end.
2 Rob Gronkowski NE Brandon Lloyd will eat into his production a little, bank on it. You could rank him as a #1B
3 Antonio Gates SD Not again, not after burning me in 2010 and 2011, no way.
4 Jermichael Finley GB
5 Vernon Davis SF All those additions to WR will only open things up more for Davis, this will be his break out year.
6 Jason Witten DAL
7 Aaron Hernandez NE Brandon hurts his value a touch, only so many passes to go around per game.
8 Fred Davis WAS Rookie QB's best friend is the tight end.
9 Brandon Pettigrew DET He'll hit pay dirt 7 to 9 times this year, watch and see.
10 Jacob Tamme DEN
11 Brent Celek PHI 97 targets last year, I'd day he was unlucky not to come down with 80 of them. Possible big year for him as defenses key on McCoy in the Red Zone.
12 Tony Gonzalez ATL New OC in ATL hasn't featured the TE position in the past, make me drop him a touch.
13 Jermaine Gresham CIN
14 Greg Olsen CAR
15 Owen Daniels HOU
16 Jared Cook TEN 81 targets last year, and the O-LINE upgrades should allow him to roam a bit more.
17 Coby Fleener IND
18 Dustin Keller NYJ
19 Kyle Rudolph MIN Possible poor mans Gronkowski, has the potential to be a lower top 10 tight end now that he's one year removed from injury and reportedly running a step faster.
20 Kellen Davis CHI  Lots of upside, but a huge risk with huge reward.
21 Dallas Clark TB
22 Ed Dickson BAL The time share at TE hurts his upside and draft value..
23 Dennis Pitta BAL
24 Heath Miller PIT
25 Kevin Boss KC
26 Zach Miller SEA
27 Tony Moeaki KC
28 Kellen Winslow SEA He's broke down bad, if I felt he could last a full 16 without being limited by injury I'd have him ranked higher.
29 Zach Miller JAC
30 Marcedes Lewis JAC
31 Lance Kendricks STL
32 Martellus Bennett NYG Hamstring issues already, reported to camp at 291 pounds.. lost hope.
