You see, this is the kind of stuff that drives fantasy managers to the brink of insanity.
Austin Collie was held out of practice for the second straight day Thursday, thanks to a nagging foot injury.
Collie has been reported as wearing a boot, and has been hobbled for the past couple of days, so there is a chance of Collie missing this week’s matchup against the Chiefs.
The NFL will update their injury report later this afternoon so be sure to check back here to this thread, for the final word.
The fantasy implications can go a couple of ways here:
I have Austin Collie ranked 7th in my WK 5 WR Start Sit column, but if you are leery about starting WRs with injuries, you can easily replace him in rank with Saints receiver Marques Colston, who is sure to do some damage against the Cardinals this week.
The other rising question is whether or not Austin Collie’s value will drop now that Pierre Garcon comes back from the injured list, which is a very good question.
The long and short of it is no, Collie will be just fine.
Garcon was projected to have the better year of the two, forcing Collie to wind up as nothing more than an ancillary WR, but it has been quite the opposite and you can bet it will remain as such.
Austin Collie has been a beast since day one in multiple ways:
- He’s third in the NFL for receiving with 32 catches for 398 yards and 5 TDs
- He has been an incredibly reliable receiver for Manning hauling in over 75% of his passes, which is something that is a concern for Garcon.
- He has the trust of Peyton Manning and the two go better together than peanut butter and jelly.
The reality is, Pierre Garcon showed himself to be a player who still needs work, and is clearly a WR4 in Indianapolis’ system behind Wayne, Collie and Dallas Clark.
Austin Collie, on the other hand, isn’t going anywhere and is an every week start barring injury.
Remember to check back here around 5:30 EST for any final updates on Collie’s status, and good luck this week!
