Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean just broke the news regarding the negotiations between the Titans and RB Chris Johnson:
BREAKING: TItans agreed to 4-yr 53.5 million deal with Chris Johnson. 30 guaranteed
Johnson and his owners are looking very good right now. After staging a holdout for all of training camp, Johnson slid all the way down to the end of the first round in 12 team leagues and even cracked the top of the second round in others. Yes, owners were that scared to take him.
He couldn't have picked a perfect time to re-sign either. With eight days until the team's first regular season game against the Jaguars, Johnson has plenty of time to practice with the team and prepare himself. While there is still the likelyhood he will be eased into the first game slower than usual, he will take over as the featured back moving forward.
As far as rankings go, I would easily move him up to the top 3, as I will be doing in my last running back rankings for the preseason Friday evening. I might even consider him at the No. 2 spot. Adrian Peterson still deserves to be the No. 1 guy. And depending on what happens with his hamstring, it will be hard to keep Arian Foster at his current No. 2 spot until we get official word from the team that he will be ready to play the Colts Week One. That will leave Johnson at No. 2, but many will have him ranked No. 1.
Unlike last year, Johnson finally has more help at the quarterback spot with Matt Hasselbeck. And his offensive line should live up to standards again this season. If you ended up taking Johnson and backup Javon Ringer, you are sitting pretty. Those who have yet to draft can confidently draft Johnson at the top of the first round again, with the drafting of Ringer as his handcuff.
So rejoice Johnson owners!!!! Your roster just got that much better going into the regular season.
