Jay Glazer on Twitter is reporting that Jaguars quarterback David Garrard is out, and Luke McCown—not rookie sensation Blaine Gabbert—will open up the season against the Titans this weekend.
What a shocker this is, huh?
I don't think anyone saw this coming, but fantasy owners shouldn't read too much into this just yet.
As far as McCown's value in Week 1, he is a bottom feeding quarterback as shown in my WK1 QB Rankings and Start-Sit Advice piece, and despite being a thrifty power arm, the Jaguars receivers all take a fantasy hit this upcoming week.
As far as David Garrard is concerned, he could still hold some intermediate fantasy value if he winds up in the right town, and has enough time to learn whatever offense is in front of him.
Possible suitors are Seattle, Miami (as a backup, really) and possibly Carolina.
Seattle is the only real city with intriguing here as it would be the only true place Garrard would eventually take over as a starter.
In the grand scheme of things, I would dump Garrard, and find another QB with a stable home off the wire before it is too late.
