Keep an Eye Out for Ray Rice

August 21, 2009 by Kurt Turner

Ray Rice appears to be poised for a big year as the feature back for the Ravens.

Ray Rice is currently number one on the Ravens depth chart, going ahead of the inconsistent Willis McGahee. However, despite the promotion, people still aren't treating him like he should be.

Ray Rice played in 13 games last year, rushed the ball 107 times and got 454 yards. However, his most impressive stat was 4.2 yards average gain, which led the Ravens for running backs. His longest run was an eye-popping 60 yards. The only knock on him is his zero touchdowns. He reached the pylon once, but was ruled out of bounds before he reached out and touched it.

Rice also has versatility as a receiver, catching 33 balls for 273 yards, and a 8.0 yard average. His longest catch was for 40 yards. However, he scored no touchdowns.

In the preseason, Ray Rice had an impressive performance against the Redskins on August 13, last Thursday. He rushed for 22 yards off of five carries and caught three passes for 38 yards, having 60 all purpose yards, despite playing only one quarter.

All the pieces are in place for Rice to have a breakout season. So if your not willing to take him as your primary back, take him as a back-up, it'll be worth it.
