Top Fantasy Football Big Board: Top 100 Players Overall

August 22, 2009 by Kurt Turner

Does Purple Jesus now have Purple Moses at QB to lead him to the top of his fantasy game?

Last updated 8/31/2009

This is a basic top 100 players going into the draft if you were to draft today. Players are ranked based on previous performances, injury history and potential upside. This is not a list that intends to rank players based on how they will perform this year because there are too many variables to take into account.

Make sure you sign up for our Dominator Service so you can keep up with the latest top players going into this season!

This list assumes a basic scoring system

Passing, rushing, receiving TDs = 6pts
10 rushing/receiving yards = 1pt
25 passing yards = 1pt
Fumbles/Interceptions = -2pts
No extra points for receptions
No extra points for 100 yd performances
No Individual Defensive Positions

Symbol What does it mean?
This player has been great in the preseason so his rank has been raised lately
This player has dropped in the rankings because of injury or preseason performance
This player has increased value in PPR leagues
This player has been injury prone in the past
This player is entering a contract year

I'm not going to include kickers and defenses for many reasons. Also, I realize that QBs will score a lot in the settings I've talked about above but the QB position is deep as always. Sometimes it's just better to wait.

Here we go!

Rank Player Name Notes
1 Adrian Peterson Look at how Brett Favre changed NYJ's running game last year
2 Maurice Jones-Drew PPR beast who will see the biggest share of the workload in whole career
3 Michael Turner Performing above expectations in preseason. Expectations were already high
4 LaDainian Tomlinson Even with turf toe LT is better than most players. This year he is fresh
5 Steve Slaton Do-it-all back a featured weapon in an already strong offense
6 Matt Forte At this point we should ignore his ypc. He practically is the Chicago offense
7 Randy Moss Even without Brady he was elite. This year he will score at least 15 TDs
8 Frank Gore Tends to play injured but high upside for this versatile back when healthy
9 Calvin Johnson Megatron could be the top WR with my grandma throwing to him
10 Larry Fitzgerald Consistently great with Warner but another story with Leinart in case of injury
11 Chris Johnson Love his speed but hate White stealing goal-line carries
12 DeAngelo Williams I just can't draft him in the top five if he won't see a majority of goal line carries
13 Andre Johnson Only Calvin Johnson matches his athleticism for a WR
14 Marion Barber 23 TDs in past 32 games makes me all giddy but make sure you draft Felix Jones
15 Drew Brees Every time he drops back to pass he looks like a kid in a candy store
16 Ronnie Brown Not a feast/famine player like many believe. This year he will show us all
17 Steven Jackson We'll always remember his 436 touches in 2006 but hardly ever plays a full season
18 Brandon Jacobs Has never ran it more than 219 times in one season but hard to ignore talent
19 Clinton Portis May get touchdowns vultured like C. Johnson and D-Will
20 Steve Smith Impressive last year even with 2 game suspension
21 Peyton Manning Won't lose sleep over this pick. His floor is higher than most other's ceilings
22 Reggie Wayne Last 11 games without Harrison: 74 rec. 1012 yds 7 TDs. Translates to roughly 1400 yds 10 scores in 16 games
23 Ryan Grant Jimmy Rollins of football? Last year's holdout derailed his first half numbers
24 Pierre Thomas Are we really worried that Mike Bell will steal significant carries from PT?
25 Brian Westbrook Not drinking the Kool-Aid this year because of injury history and McCoy
26 Kevin Smith Showed he could be a work-horse in college and in 1st NFL season
27 Greg Jennings Improving every year so the best might be yet to come
28 Anquan Boldin Injuries derailed career year for Boldin in 2008.
29 Roddy White Don't expect Gonzalez to steal the spotlight. White is the go-to guy
30 Marquis Colston He will get his in this offense but Brees likes to spread the ball around
31 Darren McFadden Michael Bush and Justin Fargas don't have nothin' on Run DMC
32 Dwayne Bowe Just because he's the only guy in KC doesn't mean he won't get his
33 Wes Welker You know what you are getting here folks
34 Eddie Royal Won 2008 Best Wes Welker Impression Award
35 Marshawn Lynch First three weeks suspended but you don't have to play him then either
36 Ray Rice Top of Baltimore depth charts shows me team has confidence in him.
37 Tom Brady Belichick won't put his Golden Child in while up by 30 pts like 2007
38 Tony Romo Don't worry about losing TO, a good QB turns any WR into a weapon
39 Anthony Gonzalez The best has yet to come from this third year receiver
40 Dallas Clark Manning relies on Clark a little more each year... 77 rec. last year
41 Aaron Rodgers Let's see him do it again before we rank him above Romo
42 Donald Brown Marshall Faulk, Edge James, Joseph Addai...see where I'm going?
43 Donovan McNabb I love every weapon McNabb has around him.
44 DeSean Jackson Preseason performances show me McNabb and Jackson are very comfortable
45 Chad Ochocinco
Might be a clown but he can still play.
46 T.J. Houshmandzadeh Matt Hasselbeck will rebound from last year and Housh will be main target
47 Brandon Marshall I'd have to think Marshall will suffer statistically with Orton instead of Cutler
48 Vincent Jackson Surprise from 2008 is now in a contract year
49 Kurt Warner 2008 was amazing but often hurt and you can get Romo or Rodgers instead.
50 Jason Witten Picking Witten or Gates is like splitting hairs
51 Antonio Gates This little piggy doesn't have a toe injury anymore
52 Roy Williams This little piggy will go to the Pro Bowl
53 Terrell Owens This little piggy went wah-wah-wah all the way home
54 Chris Wells My mouth was watering after watching him play his lone preseason game
55 Reggie Bush Those knees probably feel 30 years old with all that surgery
56 Tony Gonzalez Will take longer than we think to get used to new offense
57 Larry Johnson Vintage Larry or injured dud? Who knows really...?
58 Felix Jones Eye popping 8.9 ypc and guaranteed work load increase
59 Braylon Edwards Enigma of a player, a lot of upside but a lot of questions at QB
60 Thomas Jones A lot of depth in in that backfield and TJ is getting old
61 LenDale White Yards are easier to predict than TDs, double digit TDs arent guaranteed
62 Matt Hasselbeck Once a top 10 QB but injuries plagued him last year. Look for a rebound
63 Santonio Holmes Game winning TD in Superbowl shows you what kind of skill he has
64 Phillip Rivers Last year was an aberration because of LT's injury. Chargers won't rely on Rivers as much now
65 Jonathan Stewart Leg injury is starting to worry me. Might not play first game
66 Carson Palmer A lovely mid-round QB pick if you miss on the elite
67 Willie Parker Will probably start strong and end weak. Trade him ASAP if you can
68 Joseph Addai I expect Brown to eventually be the go-to man but I could be wrong
69 Owen Daniels 70 receptions, 862 yds impressive but clearly not an endzone target
70 Chris Cooley Might not score a lot but 1 TD? You have to think he will do better
71 Donald Driver Until he shows us he can't do it anymore, no reason to doubt
72 Matt Ryan Love the weapons he has but the team will rely more on Turner
73 Joe Flacco With the return of Derrick Mason, Flacco gets a big boost
74 LeSean McCoy You'd just be silly to draft Westbrook without drafting this young gun
75 Matt Shaub I want to see him play a whole year before I give him the keys to my team
76 Hines Ward Getting a little old and coming off knee surgery. Why take the risk?
77 Knowshon Moreno Rookie runner with unknown ceiling but already hurt
78 Derrick Ward A healthy Williams could spell trouble for owners expecting a big year from Ward
79 Kellen Winslow Getting out of Cleveland was the best thing he could have done
80 Bernard Berrian Favre likes to throw deep and Berrian likes to go deep. Good match
81 Greg Olsen I'm not as bullish on Olsen as my colleagues are.
82 Jay Cutler Young kid with a cannon-arm. Rex Grossman anyone?
83 Trent Edwards I would rank higher but it's realistic to get Ed in the 9th in any draft
84 Devin Hester Later round picks are all about upside and this kid has a bunch
85 Ted Ginn Jr. If you are into 3rd year receivers then this is your guy
86 Lance Moore Maybe shoulder injury is a good thing for fantasy, no one is talking about Moore
87 Chris Henry Putting up ridiculous numbers in preseason
88 Jericho Cotchery Will probably be Sanchez's number one target
89 Torry Holt I'd rather have Bulger throwing to me than Garrard honestly
90 Nate Washington Could lead the Titans in receptions this year
91 Mark Sanchez I've been impressed with his poise this preseason
92 Antonio Bryant Not much to get excited about with him except for a few good games last year
93 Earl Bennett Did you know he used to play with Cutler in Vanderbilt?
94 Derrick Mason High floor and low ceiling makes for cramped parties
95 Jamaal Lewis Less carries 2nd year in a row. Getting older and is an injury risk
96 Miles Austin Could be the deep threat to replace TO
97 Percy Harvin Brett Favre seems to like passing to Harvin
98 Domenik Hixon Someone has to emerge as a #1 WR for Eli Manning
99 Visanthe Shiancoe Dustin Keller was a favorite target of Favre last year...just sayin'
100 Cedric Benson Showing us the same old stuff in the preseason. Not impressed at all
