Week 11 TE Rankings: Start Sit ~ Do Injuries Help?

November 17, 2009 by Kurt Turner

Injuries were all over the fantasy football world this past weekend, and the tight end position (somehow) stayed away from the bad mojo. Sorry Owen Daniels, you missed your week to go down!

There are some intriguing matchups coming this week, with a lot of defenses starting to struggle and running backs and receivers getting hurt (or suspended, Dwayne Bowe), the tight end position could continue to be as good for smart fantasy owners as many Number Two receivers and running backs.

This week has some nice divisional games between great TEs and bad teams, there could be some money made at this position this week. Let's take a look at where the money should be in Week 11.

Week 11 – TE Start of the Week – Brent Celek, PHI @ CHI

OK,perhaps a little off the radar here for the top pick of the week, but have you watched the Bears' defense lately? Their secondary is miserable! They have, however, been pretty good against the run. So with Brian Westbrook having serious "career conversations" with specialists, it might be time to watch Donovan McNabb put up HUGE numbers in his home town. Celek and DeSean Jackson should be HUGE this week.

A Few More Fantasy Studs To Play In Week 11

Vernon Davis, SF @ GB Davis continues to be a rock star as San Francisco's leading receiver, and it appears that the 60 yards Michael Crabtree's getting each week has opened up the field for Davis to be even bigger. The Packers have good linebacker and run a 3-4, but thei've been vulnerable to TEs this year.
Visanthe Shiancoe, MIN vs SEA Adrian Peterson is a beast, and Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice have emerged as top WRs, but this could be a blow out for the Vikings. Shiancoe is a big target in the red zone and Favre likes to spread the wealth. He might get a TD for you this year.
Jeremy Shockey, NO @ TB The Bucs aren't good, and the Saints offense hasn't been the 40-point giant they were for the first seven weeks. The Saints will probably try to run away and hide in this one, and their recipe for success early was to get Shockey into the end zone.
Kellen Winslow, TB vs NO Winslow has a history of going big when there's another Hurricane on the field, and he followed Shockey at TE at The U. Tampa would be wise to look for him to control the ball and continue moving the chains. He could get yards and touchdowns.
Jason Witten, DAL vs WAS Just in case you hadn't heard, the Redskins are... bad. Their defense has been mediocre, and the Cowboys are trying to put a strangle hold on the NFC East. Witten should be good for both touches and yards, and should get into the end zone in this rivalry game.

Week 11 – TE Sleeper of the Week - Brandon Pettitgrew, DET vs. CLE

Monday Night Football should give you more than enough reasons to play ANYONE on the Detoit Lions... just as an aside here, when was the last time the Lions were clearly the better team in a game? Seriously? Pettitgrew has improved weekly and could have a nice week in yards and could get into the end zone as well.

Week 11 – TE Sit of the Week - Zach Miller, OAK vs DEN

The Broncos have been struggling, and will have minimal offense coming this week because of injuries. That means the defense will have to step up and play like they did for the first six weeks of the season, and they get an easy opportunity to bounce back against the Raiders. Miller's their leading receiver, and Brian Dawkins will be all over him on Sunday. I wouldn't bet the house on Miller going big this week,

Some Fantasy Question Marks for Week 11

Greg Olsen, CHI vs PHI Olsen will be a fantasy question mark until he isn't getting doubled every snap. It also doesn't help that Jay Cutler likes to throw interceptions in the red zone and Ron Turner, the Bears Offensive Coordinator, puts in an extra tackle for Olsen on the 1 yard line to run a bootleg to... Desmond Clark and Jason McKie. The Bears are a mess.
Dallas Clark, IND @ BAL The Ravens are hearing that their win against Cleveland wasn't that special, and they need this win to stay in their divisional race. Stopping Clark will be one of their priorities.
Tony Gonzalez, ATL @ NYG Similar to Olsen, this comes down to a struggling QB not helping his skill position guys get fantasy points. The Giants are fighting for a playoff spot, and will try to get Matt Ryan to make (more) mistake.
Heath Miller, PIT @ KC Big Ben hasn't been looking at Miller in the red zone as much lately, but has found him for the key third downs. Miller might be a strong play for a few catches and yards, but not in the end zone.
Ben Watson, NE vs NYJ This might actually qualify as a sleeper, but the Jets pass defense has been good this year. They'll pay enough attention to Randy Moss and Wes Welker that Watson might vulture a TD, but he never gets manyyards.
