WK 15 Waiver Wire Sleepers: Aromashodu and Foster Lead Way In a Six Man Intrigue!

December 16, 2009 by Kurt Turner

As we wind down the football season in Fantasy, it is almost trite to speak of waiver wire pickups—almost!

This week we find 6 players still lingering around the waiver wire, ready for the pickings. The season is just about over—fantasy that is—but that’s no time to slack off the waiver wire, and these players could be just the right fit for your team.

Here they are:

WR – Devin Aromashodu - Bears: Aromashodu torched the Packers’ vaunted defense for 76 yards and a single score—I say “torched” cause it’s very difficult for ANY rookie to do that to the Packers.

Cutler has been petitioning for Aromashodu all season long, and now that he is actually playing—thanks to Devin Hester’s injury—we can see why he asked so vehemently. Baltimore’s secondary is nowhere near as good as Green Bay’s so if he can do that to the Pack, just imagine what’s in store for Cutler’s new toy.

RB – Arian Foster – Texans: Unless you live under a bridge, you have probably heard the news circulating around the youngster Foster that coach Kubiak has dedicated the remainder of the season to Foster.

Foster is a sizable back with great outside speed and reliable hands, and considering the Texans have had trouble all year at running back, the kid is not only sure to produce big time, he is also going to make sure he DOESN’T screw things up like his other running back counter parts.

He’s a solid pick up and play this week.

WR – Deion Branch – Seahawks: This guy just doesn’t seem to go away does he?

Branch will take over duties at starting receiver thanks to Nate Burleson’s ankle injury which appears to be pretty bad.

Branch is expected to miss 2 to 6 weeks, which means Branch is the number two guy for the remainder of the season. Branch has always been a solid producer in PPR leagues, and the Seahawks won’t abandon the usage of Burleson’s position, making Branch the most interesting Waiver Wire pickup this year.,

I would recommend picking him up as soon as possible if you are looking for a viable WR3—or even two if you’re in a pinch.

Defensive Players To Consider:

DL – Shaun Smith – Bengals: Yup, that’s right Bengals’ fans; he’s back, and expected to be a quality fill in for the absence of Domata Peko who was sorely missed last week against the Vikings and Purple Jesus.

The Bengals employ—amongst various other things—a “start at the line first” mentality with their defense, and Smith should provide substantial fill in work as Peko heals. In addition, he should also see a ton of work going forward.

LB – Gerald McRath – Titans: David Thornton has been up and down all season long with his declining play and shoulder injuries, and he will be sidelined again—possibly for good.

In his place will be Gerald McRath; a linebacker who is highly looked at as the eventual starter, and has showed flashes of brilliance this year when he has played.

The Titans will be in a dog fight with the Dolphins this week, and the chances of McRath getting a ton of work are VERY high. If you are in need of an IDP plug in player, he is the best option out there that has little to zero ownership.

DB – Brian Witherspoon – Lions: If there has been one thing constant this year with coach Schwartz, it has been nearly every player in the secondary has been in the dog house at some point in the season—the newest addition is Aaron Brown.

Brian Witherspoon was recently signed from Jacksonville to take Brown’s place, and he is widely being considered a huge upgrade with extra value considering he will return punts  and kick offs.

Witherspoon is a solid IDP add if you are looking for a X-factor type player to bolster your roster.

Keep these names written down somewhere and definitely check them all out. Good Luck this week everyone!
