What an epic disaster this kid was on Monday night!
Shonn Greene, who played well enough last year that the New York Jets allowed Thomas Jones to take his 1,400 yards to Kansas City and signed a "washed up" LaDanian Tomlinson, was a trendy first-round pick in most fantasy leagues this year. After posting great numbers every time he saw extended touches, and now being seen as the starter for the team that ran the ball more than anyone else last year, it appeared that Green was going to be money.
And then Monday night happened.
Now, clearly the loss for the Jets on Monday night wasn't one person's fault; it takes more than one player being awful to only rack up six first downs in an entire game. Mark Sanchez was brutal, the Jets blocking was suspect, and their receivers didn't appear to want anything to do with physical contact.
But Greene stuck out as the worst.
Greene had five rushes for 18 yards, and one reception for nine. To make matters worse, he dropped the only other ball thrown to him, one that hit him square in the stomach, and fumbled twice (losing one).
Meanwhile, Tomlinson earned 11 carries for 62 yards and added two receptions for 16 yards. Most importantly, he didn't put the ball on the ground.
It will be interesting to see how the "Hard Knocks" stars (and sexual harassers) handle the bright lights they've put squarely on themselves moving forward. Greene looked bored at times in an ugly loss to a prime time opponent, and his stats were evidence that his game never showed up.
It might be worth thinking twice about sitting Greene until he shows up.
