Fantasy GMs and experts have spent the last few months trying to navigate the muddled Washington Redskins running back mess. Clinton Portis has seen more action than Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan, and big surprise, he's already hurt. Larry Johnson may not even make the team, and Willie Parker is toast.
While some are hailing Portis as a sleeper this year, it's more realistic that a name as yet uncovered will surprise fantasy leagues this season. Coach Mike Shanahan has a knack for finding running back gold in the strangest places. While Ryan Torain has had the most carries among Redskins RBs this preseason, his yards per carry is only 3.1. The most impressive RB has been undrafted former LSU Tiger, Keiland Williams.
In his first preseason game Williams rushed for two TDs and 4.6 yards YPC against the Buffalo Bills. Mind you the Bills rush defense is terrible, but it's still two more TDs than any other Redskins tailback. his overall YPC this preseason is 4.0.
While I'm not ready to anoint him the next big thing, he could be this year's Arian Foster, bursting into fantasy fame from out of nowhere. If anyone can turn a no-name RB into a household name, it's Shanahan.
Keep an eye on Williams as the preseason winds down and we see what happens with Johnson and Parker. If the team dumps both, as they may well do, Williams is a definite late round grab.
