The final preseason games are over. Most drafts are over. Final roster cuts are being made. More injuries have occurred. This seems like a good time to get our first look at the best waiver wire pick-ups of the preseason.
Every position and every team has had some interesting twists and turns over the preseason’s four games. So let’s go around the league and take a look at each team’s standouts and potential waiver fodder, plus Watch-list candidates.
–AFC East–
Buffalo Bills:
Redraft owners are still overvaluing CJ Spiller and undervaluing Fred Jackson, but both are 100% owned in most leagues. The only worthwhile fantasy WR here is Lee Evans. Some IDP guys worthy of waiver consideration are free safety George Wilson, who gets the starting nod over Jairus Byrd. Also LB Andra Davis is being overlooked in most drafts and he should have a pretty fine fantasy year.
Miami Dolphins:
There are no waiver-worthy players to discuss at this point. Beyond WR Brandon Marshall, Davonne Bess and Brian Hartline are perhaps worth watch-list consideration at receiver, as is TE Anthony Fasano, but that's about it.
New England Patriots:
RB: It's hard to know which RB will get the majority of snaps for the Pats this season. Right now Fred Taylor is still taking the first team snaps, and is worth a bench spot if you have room. Laurence Maroney is borderline.
TE: Both rookie tight ends, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski looked great this preseason, but Gronk hauled in 4 TDs in 3 games. He's worth a bench spot at this point or even a starting spot.
IDP: LB Brandon Spikes is worth a bench spot, and safety Pat Chung is an immediate waiver grab if he's still available in your league.
New York Jets:
The one name that stands out as a waiver grab is tight end Dustin Keller. He's looked great this preseason, and he makes a solid low end TE1 or a good TE2.
