Over recent years the Lions have used the franchise tag on Jeff Backus and Cory Redding. Both were then rewarded with long term deals for big bucks. I know linemen aren't the usual thought of as a "face of the franchise" but given the investment placed in them and the Lions needing veteran leadership on both sides of the ball, they should be the ones proving this team was right to show them a high level of commitment.
