John Fox's name has been coming up. Very close with the Jones family

    Thoughts?

Granted Carolina has been terrible for the past couple years, but look how crapty of a job their front office has done

IMO, Jerry needs to restore credibility to the Cowboys fan base. He needs to call Cowher or Gruden first.

Did you really just say that you think the Cowboy's should choose their new coach based on what the fanbase tells Jerry to do? WOW and I thought that I thought little of Jerry Jones.

"restore credibility to the fan base"

I dont think Cowher is realistic. He will want to be a GM, and he wont be here. regarless, I dont want his as a GM anyways. He's never been a personel guy And I dont think Gruden is a good fit here. His rep is bigger then it deserves to be anyways

    **********Automerged Doublepost**********

Only way too do it is by winning 9-10 games next year, which is do able with the right coach

No freaking way we win that with Gruden, who's offense is complicate as hell. So complicated no one can actually run it (drumroll plz). If you want to restore credibility, you need to be in the playoff picture in 2011. Gruden wont have us there.

Gruden would be awful in opinion he would come inhere and try and implement a WCO and that would kill us IMO

Cowher eh idk how long did it take him to win JJ wont give that long.

Fox i dont know either shheesh

I heard from aq fromer player cant remmeber who that garret will more Authoritative due to have being coached by Jimmy J and that its more his style i guess we'll see

Im not a huge Cowher guy, but I would welcome him with open arms if he didnt want personnel control. Really int a weak spot for us, and Cowher doesnt have a personnel resume. As a HC only, he could right the ship and sustain success.

Honestly, I think with Fox we would have a good 2011, but looking at his record when Carolina was relevent, he is a 11-5 followed by 8-8 type.

The problem I see is this. Garrett isn;t going to get the offense playing any better since he's the man behind the playcalling anyway and on defense Phillips was calling the plays. I don't see the defensive side of the ball getting any better because I don't think they are going to be varying the defense that much, especially mid season.

When it comes time at the end of the season, they are all going to go. If Jerry wants to win, he's got to bring in a coach that commands respect right off the bat. he needs a head coach. Not an assistant coach somewhere else, a real head coach. The whole coaching staff right down to the towel boys gotta go. Too much dissapointment has gone on over the last few years. The first thing they need to do player personnel wise is fix that offensive line. They have now become a pass or bust offense because no team has to commit 8 or even 7 guys in the box to stop the running game.

On defense the only guy week in and week out that plays hard is Ware. IMO, they can blow that defense up. Especially the secondary. Jenkins couldn't cover a cough never mind any wide receiver recently.

The sad thing is, like we all say, the talent is there. They are just soft, there is no edge to that team. They are always playing like they are waiting for the other show to drop.

I remember 2 years ago the Yankees were playing like absolute crap mid season. They had just lost 4/6 games to teh marlins and nationals. Brian Cashman had a meeting with the team and basicaly said, you guys are the Freaking New York Yankees, start acting like it. From that point on they played great ball won the world series etc. Thats what the Cowboys need. Or have we just been overrating them for the past several years.

I''ll start with your last point

I think alot of guys have slipped and that wasnt accounted for. Davis and Colmbo are liabilitys, no on thought that would be the case. James and Brooking are terrible. Brooking you knew it was going to come, but we wore James down fast. He is basicly a 36 year old in a 29 year olds body. But this wasnt accounted for. They drank the Alan Ball Koolaide.

Player development has been terrible. Scandrick has regressed to the point he shouldnt even be on the team anymore. Jenkins, skill wise, can lock down when he wants to (I'll get to that in a sec), but he has become one of those "dont know if he is going to show up types". And then there is Jason Williams. Dude runs a sub 4.5 and was freaking electric in preseason when he was in position. My question is........how do you heck up, 3rd round pick ILB, especially one with his ability. Because Phillips couldnt develope talent worth a crap

Back to Jenkins. Jenkins is why I want Petterson. We wont get rid of Jenkins, and maybe we shouldnt. But after this season its plain to see he doesnt have the desire to be a #1 CB and play top WR's game in and out

Joe, in your mind does it matter who coaches the team now? Knowing that they are 1-7 are they going to scrap or are they going to gve up in every game when they give up a big play offensively or defensively. Over the past few games even when they were ebating the giants 20-7, they just had that look like they knew what was coming, moreso after Romo went down. And last week when it was 10-0, they had that same look.

When you lose your first couple of games in the season. You can chalk it up to a bad start. But when you get blown out in three straight games (that Giants game really wasn't all that close, i hate prevent defense at teh end of games), mid season, it's a problem. As much as I dislike the Cowboys, you want them to be competitive so you know it's going to be a good game. I had tickets for this weekends game and I sold them because Its not a marquee game to me right now.

    I feel your pain bro.

I dont think it matters who coach's right now. Its probably better being Garrett anyways. Garretts known for being a rod. As far as beyond, whoever it has has to be credible and hold players accountable. I think there are a couple assistants who could do it, mainly Rivera because he is well known and been everywhere. But its probobly going to take a "name". IMO Ive always thought the head guy was over stated in most case's. Its the assistants, the playcallers that matter. Look at your Giants once Spag left. The defense was the same in 2009, and enter Fewell, and its rolling again and the Giants are contenders. Its gonna takea HC that can command the team, and innovative playcallers (I have a feeling Norv is coming home) to turn this around.

I cant back this with any reasoning other then timing. But I think Romo had ALOT to do with the recent play. Maybe the straw that broke the camels back.........As a Giants fan it gives you a nice little peice for any future smack threads

I don't think we should resign Marcus Spears unless he maybe wants to move inside, if that's even a thought.

Be be a nice guy to have if we run a hybrid type D next year. I always that style fit him best. Not great any one place, but should be able to play in different fronts. However, is he worth the 2nd contract and money it might command even if we do?

I wonder if its too late for him to be a 4-3 DT. Thats where he always should been IMO

    **********Automerged Doublepost**********

Also want to add that we can in fact hire Dom Capers away from Green Bay

He is just a "Defensive Coordiantor', not an "Assistant Head Coach"

Not sure the exact rules, but I believe we can hire him if we make him an Assistant Head Coach.

Capers has been Garretts DC of choice. I would say its almost a given if Garrett retans the job

Capers runs a 4-3 or am I mistaken

    Nope, Capers is 3-4

Should we look at picking up Jason Allen? The CB/S the Dolphins just released.

When Alan Ball is your FS and Brian McCann is on the roster, no reason not

Plus if he pans out, we at least got something out of the 2006 first round

    **********Automerged Doublepost**********

How many "Assistant Head Coachs" can a team have?

Because Cam Cameron, whom was going to be Garretts OC in Baltimore doesnt have the tag either. The one upside I could possibly see with Garrett is that if you can have 2, his playcallers would probobly be Cameron on Offense and Capers on defense..........not too shabby

Are resigning our selves to the idea of Garret as head coach......

What's all the hooplah about? Are you people actually complaining about Garrett being the head coach?>
