Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been indicted on one count of aggravated assault for the alleged incident involving his fiancée in February, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.

Rice initially faced a charge of simple assault for allegedly hitting fiancée Janay Palmer at the Revel Casino on Feb. 15. A disturbing video showed Rice dragging Palmer out of an elevator after the alleged incident.

Heard this morning that his fiance is refusing to press charges. I don't think Roger will be as charitable towards him.

Multiple sources are saying that Rice and his fiance got married yesterday. Wonder how long this happy marriage will last?

Can't the District Attorney still press charges even if the "wife" doesn't want to? I believe it's the DA's decision...no?

If the DA feels he/she has enough evidence, I believe that is correct.

Absolutely. I've known several people throughout the years whose significant others called the police on them for domestic, some very warranted, some just heated arguments that might have gotten out of hand. In almost all of those cases, the caller ended up not wanting to pursue charges once everything calmed down, and every time they were told that it's no longer their call, and that once someone is arrested and charges are filed, it's up to the DA whether or not to pursue them. With domestic stuff there's obviously a lot of emotion and lack of objectivity from the involved parties, and a huge chance of the "abused" being influenced to drop charges by the "abuser" after the fact, so they generally take it out of their hands entirely.

Depending on the state, once an arrest is made it doesn't make a crap whether or not somebody is pressing charges. The arrest is Open Sesame for the DA to pursue the charges. At that point the "victim" merely becomes a witness for the state.

Remember the case with Dez and his mother? Even though his mother refused to press charges, the DA kept looking to see if there was enough evidence to indict him.
