This is all the better the Royals could do? I know, solid, warrior, etc. Just getting a little old watching the Royals being a farm system and a graveyard for MLB at the same time. Is Satchel Paige still on the Roster?

    lee for hallady ?

    **********Automerged Doublepost**********

halladay and his agent are currently in town. looks like lee is gone which i am fine with assuming we sign halladay to an extension.

that doesn't make sense to me, why not give up the prospects keep lee and add halladay instead of trading lee for prospects and trading those prospects with current prospects in phillies organization for Halladay.

Roy Halladay to the Phillies at center of three-team mega-trade - MLB - SI.com

The Phillies are in agreement on a three-team trade with the Mariners and Blue Jays to acquire star pitcher Roy Halladay, SI.com has learned.

Sources say Halladay will agree to a contract extension to complete the deal. It's expected to be a formality.

The Phillies have discussed Cliff Lee in trades, but it isn't confirmed who the Mariners would be receiving in this deal.

makes a ton of sense - lee refused to re-sign. so we go get halladay for one prospect and a guy we werent going to re-sign anyway without giving up happ, drabek or several other prospescts.

I'm eager to hear what the Jays are getting... And what exactly the Mariners are giving up.

    Decent pickup...

So the phillies traded 3 of their top 4 prospects lol.

Drabek, Michael Taylor and Travis D'Arnaud... The Jays got some pretty good talent in this deal. They traded Michael Taylor to the A's for Brett Wallace today.

And the Cardinals are offering serious cash to keep Holliday.

halladay is well worth the talent we are giving up. the issue is why give up lee ? i know we are gettingplayers in return but heck that. keep lee.

also, why didnt they just do this move last year ? the whole hold up was drabek.

Yeah getting rid of Lee made no sense at all. People are saying they couldn't lock up Lee that's why, but why couldn't they lock him up at a later point? The Halladay/Lee combo would have made for the best 1-2 punch in baseball without a shadow of a doubt and now the Mariners probably have that combo with Hernandez and Lee. I guess the Phillies have faith in there young arms like Bastardo, Happ, and a couple those other guys on the brink of making the team this year.

according to jason stark we are getting pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont, outfielder prospect Tyson Gillies for lee and ProspectInsider.com reported that the Phillies would get a third Mariners prospect, right-hander Juan Ramirez.

still think if you keep lee in our rotation we run away with the n.l. by mid june if it would take that long.

now our starters seem to line up this way:

    halladay
    hamels
    blanton
    happ
    moyer & whoever

personally i dont like three lefty starters.

Are the reports accurate that the Phils are reluctant to sign long-term deals? I heard Lee demanded a long-termer but Halliday was good for a 3-year extension and that that was the reason why Lee was dealt.

it's true the phils dont sign pitchers more to more than 3yr deals/extensions. but the phils never got a chance to rtalk to lee's agent. lee's camp made it clear they wanted to hit free agency and would not to new deal until after that time.

that said i still do not like trading lee away. the hallday trrade is sweet but money and the phils philosophy got in the way.
