Chicago Bears coach's decision-making under fire too Every NFL head coach occasionally mismanages the clock and his timeouts. Those who win games and make the playoffs get away with it. Those who don't face the scrutiny Lovie Smith faced Sunday after another example of curious clock management and decision-making. What Lovie Smith did on sunday, you won't see any other head coach in the NFL doing something like that. In my opinion, a move like that means you are begging to get fired.
Only if Lovie's contract didn't have $11 million left on it for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Since the Super Bowl year in 2006, the Bears have gone from 7-9 in 2007 to 9-7 in 2008 to 5-8 through 13 games in 2009. Now, if Lovie had a much cheaper contract, I think it would be a done deal that he would be gone after this year.
