The competition is still too close to call, but Buccaneers quarterback Luke McCown will apparently get the first crack at the team’s starting quarterback job in preseason. McCown, who has started seven career games in the NFL, will get the start in Tampa Bay’s first preseason game vs. the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 15, Bucs general manager Mark Dominik told 620 WDAE in a radio interview on Saturday afternoon. But by no means does that announcement mean McCown will be Tampa Bay’s starting signal caller in 2009 because according to Dominik, Bucs QB Byron Leftwich will start the team’s second exhibition game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 22.
