I disagree. He's not even a good OC. He's a good skills coach/teacher and excellent at scripting opening drives. He is only a good play caller with a lead when he doesn't call plays scared. In Dallas, he had the talent to never be down or in close games much. In Miami and San Fran he showed signs of doing what he usually does and is doing a lot now, bailing on the run in close games.

You want examples. Let's look at the past two weeks:

Against the Colts in Week 12 the Chargers were behind 20-10 with nearly 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter. For the remainder of the game the Chargers ran 25 offensive plays of which only 7 were runs. Of those seven runs, one was a Rivers scramble (so it was called as a pass play) and another two were inside the Colts 5 yard line.

After getting a TD back to make it 20-17, the Chargers got the ball back with 3:15 left. By the two minute warning the Chargers had a 1st down at the Colts 37 yard line. Obviously, they need to be closer for a reasonable field goal chance but never fear....Norv is here! Not forgetting a FG only ties the game and the Colts might have a chance to score again, running down the clock is also an issue. Three straight passes later the Chargers have come up two yards short of the first down so a field goal attempt is coming up. Then Norv calls time out when he could have ran another 30 seconds on the clock!! Why?

The Chargers made the field goal to tie it up but with 90 seconds left Peyton Manning had enough time to get the ball into position for a game winning field goal. Given it was from 51 yards then the additional 30 seconds the Chargers could have ran off the clock was certainly costly.

As a Skins fan, I spent 7 years being teased with great opening drives before things would get tense and Turnip would go pass happy.

Norv's ineptness is proven over a good length of time. He is currently in his 11th season as a head coach. Over that time he has complied a record of 77-95-1 (0.445). In games decided by 7 points or less his record drops to 31-55-1 (0.356). As an OC or Head Coach Norv has 18 years experience, his teams have made post season only 5 times (91-93 with Dallas, 99 with the Skins and last year with the Chargers).

He's a tease, he shows you plenty of nice things but never delivers on a consistent basis.

As a Raiders fan, I firmly believe Norv is a crapty coach and does well only with a good HB to work with as an OC. When he is in charge of the whole team, he fails. Look for the Colts to kick his butt in his home town. The only reason why they are in this game is because the ponies suck even more.
