Not happy about the defense and special teams performances, but Mendenhall showed the talent we've all been waiting for. Far from the guy we've been seeing. Shedding the Tim Worley moniker. Ben was Ben. All in all a great offensive effort. Can use some work on special teams and defense...
- Ben was excellent - Hines had a very active game and outside of the 2 drops he was very effective (those 2 drops are inexcusable though) -Has been a while since Heath Miller had 2 touchdowns in one game, I like it. - You have to be impressed with how the offensive line has improved this season. - Mendenhall = Delicious. I will not jump on this bandwagon until I see him against Minnesota though, We have had no problem running over San Diego, and Willie Parker looked great against them twice last season. Mendenhall ran hard and hit the line of scrimmage FAST. He did get soft toward the end of some runs, but great holes opened up by the o-line! -We have to finish games, this is just ridiculous. I hope to see Polamalu next week against the Lions so he will be back and ready against A.D and the Vikings. Go Steelers!
The Stellers offensive line played superb last nite just crushing the chargers d-line. i have never seen so many pancake blocks in one game.
this is my favorite time of year...when everyone who has HATED mendenhall jumps on the bandwagon...same thing happened with timmons defense played lights out for 3 quarters....this 4th quarter sliding has to be dealt with. carey davis made a huge play....summers would have been flat on his face, while davis showed alot of awareness. oline looked like 4 studs and hartwig....and even hartwig didnt look that terrible i believe with troy out timmons should have been on gates all game the defense didnt play that terrible, the stupid hester strip was huge and the onside kick was a little unconventional, pay attention to the dominate 3 quarters....while i dont agree with going to prevent in those situations at all....it wasnt a poor shwing by the d until the prevent came out and got pissed on mendenhall should be the guy against detroit, im just glad the breakout game came in a game where the pressure was the highest....he was benched the week before and the team was counting on him in a must-win game because it really was, they go 1-3 and thats a hole they dont want to have to dig themselves out of. what a confidence booster that has to be for him i dont expect him, or anyone really to run all over minny, but he showed last night he could press the hole, hit the hole with authority, cover the ball when he needs too, be elusive, run short, run long, block.....everyone should feel good about this man
I hope to see Polamalu back this week as well. You have to think in the back of your mind against the Bengals when Leonard catches that 4th & 10 screen and runs for 11 that Polamalu would've been somewhere close to Leonard on that play... Anyway, agree with K Train...the defense was solid for three quarters. They need to buckle down in the 4th... Very rarely does anyone run all over Minnesota...lol...they're solid up front. Ben should be able to pick apart the D's back end if the line gives him time. But the Lions should be the focus this week...
It's in the past now, maybe Troy will be back this week so he can dominate Detroit and then Cleveland. We really need him against Minnesota.
I'd hate to say must win games, but the Cleveland and Detroit games...must win...can't heck around with those games.
I liked what I saw for 3 quarters also. If it weren't for two plays it would have been a total blow out. The fumble return and onside kick gave the Chargers a boost and even though we complain (Steeler fans) when we needed to we finished the game with the drive and fg against a good Charger team. Chargers will be in the post season and we beat them on national tv once again. Very pleased with the way Mendenhall played. That's the kind of running I saw when he was in the Big Ten. Great play by the O-line. Pass protection and run game too even if the Chargers were beat up a little. Hoping this is the confidence builder the Steelers need.
lol Steelers arent anything special this year, they will beat the lions but I wouldnt count on them dominating them. Lions have shown they have the talent, they just havent figured out how to maxamize it. Cleveland even has improved a bit, bengales beat the steelers ans the bengales almost lost to cleveland...... so dont count on any walk in the park on either game.
I don't think anyone said either game was a walk in the park. For the record, the Steelers weren't anything special last season until the playoffs...which is the only place you want to be special.
ya I am tired... now working 12 hour shifts lol havent made the adjustment yet, I just read dominate lions and browns.... just dont think it will be a domination game.
