Colts free safety Antoine Bethea was fined $10,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit in last Sunday's win over Jacksonville. Mathis was fined, but not penalized, for making contact to the "head and neck area'' of quarterback David Garrard, according to a league spokesman. Bethea was fined and penalized because the NFL said "he made helmet-to-helmet contact with a defenseless player (receiver Mike Thomas).'' Jacksonville linebacker Daryl Smith was not fined for a forearm-to-helmet hit to Colts receiver Austin Collie. Collie sustained a concussion on the play and has been placed on the season-ending injured reserve list. Source: Indianapolis Star
