The Indianapolis Colts have informed Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck that they will select him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said on Wednesday that the club had "pretty much made up our mind" on who would they would select with the top pick, but would not identify the player until April 26. Throughout the process, however, it's been clear that Luck was the quarterback they identified as the long-term replacement form Peyton Manning, who was released in March. The Colts were present at pro days for both Luck and Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin, but unless with Griffin, conducted a private workout with Luck and brought him to the headquarters for a pre-draft visit. (Griffin declined to privately work out for all 32 teams, but has met with the Washington Redskins) During his 38-game career at Stanford, the 6-foot-4, 234-pound Luck completed 67 percent of 1,064 pass attempts for 9,430 yards with 82 touchdowns and just 22 interceptions.

Luck has got the highest floor of any QB prospect there has been in...well forever. There's almost no bust value and basically projects to be a top 10 QB at worse and Peyton Manning level at his peak.

RG III, yeah, he may have this impressive athleticism and big arm, but how many times have we seen these types come out of college and end up completely flopping when moving onto the highest level? There's too many to count.

Plus RGIII got the height issue that's going to be a factor in the pocket in the NFL and will be adapting to a whole new type of offence. No such concerns with Luck.

Luck is easily the better choice, and it's going to be a while before we see such a sure thing prospect in the Draft.
