The Indianapolis Colts have released 2007 NFL defensive player of the year Bob Sanders. Team owner Jim Irsay announced the move on Twitter, thanking Sanders for his contributions. Sanders was the Colts’ second-round pick in 2004 and made Pro Bowl appearances in 2005 and 2007, the same season he was voted the league’s top defensive player. He signed a new five-year, $37.5 million contract after that season, but injuries limited him to only nine regular-season appearances over the next three seasons. The move was expected and last month, his agent, Tom Condon, told The Associated Press, he “anticipated the same thing you do,â€￾ and on Thursday night, team owner Jim Irsay said the team would make a decision by March 3.

This had to be done, it's a damn shame that this dude can't stay healthy. He's too good.

Would be a hell of a pick up on the cheap if he could finally defeat his injury demons. Such a shame tho that his career has taken this path, wasn't long ago that he was mentioned in the same breath as Polamalu & Reed.

Somebody give Jerry his number. I'd love to see him in Big D for the right price. We need DBs badly.

Hope they released him softly...would want to hurt him. Dude is more fragile than shockey and bush combined.

But seriously, he would be a great pickup IF he can stay healthy.

I will really miss him!! It will seem very strange to see him in another uniform.

Hopefully he goes to the NFC.

    Bye, Bob. :(

May never get injured again. Absolutely worth it.

  11. About freakin' time......this should've been done over a year ago. Dude played in just 9 games in the last three seasons.

He's not worth the trouble anymore imo......

That would be a riot if some team called and he wanted some guaranteed money.

It's too bad when an obviously talented player ends up injury prone, 9 games in 3 years is sad for a player of his caliber...sad really.
