"The Cubs' off-season may be quieter than in recent years, especially if Ryan Dempster and Kerry Wood re-sign quickly, eating up a big chunk of general manager Jim Hendry's budget. But plenty of names will be mentioned once or twice as the Cubs seek a left-handed-hitting outfielder, a leadoff man, bullpen help and perhaps another starter to join the foursome of Dempster, Carlos Zambrano, Ted Lilly and Rich Harden. Many current players will see their names crop up in trade talks, including Derrek Lee, Jason Marquis, Sean Marshall, Ronny Cedeno and Felix Pie. That doesn't mean they're going anywhere, but after watching two straight postseason flops, Hendry is willing to listen to just about anyone who wants to talk.
