The Kansas City Chiefs have given permission to the Miami Dolphins to talk contract with left tackle Branden Albert to advance a potential trade for a second-round draft pick, ESPN reported. Albert is currently the Chiefs’ franchise player, but it is widely believed the team plans to draft its future left offensive tackle—Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel or Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher—with the first overall pick in next week's draft. If the Dolphins can work out a long-term contract with Branden Albert, they apparently will complete a trade with the Chiefs. According to the report, Albert is expected to visit the Dolphins in the next few days and take a physical, the Dolphins need a left tackle after losing Jake Long to the Rams in free agency. Albert signed his franchise tender, worth $9.82 million, with the Chiefs but wants a long-term deal—something the Dolphins also would require before giving up a second-round pick, Albert has not been participating in the Chiefs’ offseason program.
