Former Giants linebacker Pepper Johnson could be Big Blue's next defensive coordinator, sources say In my view, Johnson could be exactly what we need in our next Defensive Coordinator. He was part of the Giants glory years in the late '80s and early '90s playing on some of the best defenses in modern NFL history, winning two Super Bowls in the process. Was also apart of one of the best Linebacker units of all time with Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson and Carl Banks. Johnson was hard nosed and always came to play. One of my favorite Giants growing up. He has learned from some of the greatest football minds in the business with Bill Parcells and BIll Belichick. I had previously thought twinky Jauron would be a good candidate and I still do somewhat, but after the way our defense got kicked around this season, statistically the worst since 1966 when we allowed a franchise record 501 points, we need a no nonsense guy that will kick the defensive players asses if there not doing their jobs and won't take crap from anyone. I believe Johnson could be that man. Wellington Mara once said, "Once a Giant, always a Giant." Johnson is one of the guys that defines that statement and would bring back the New York Giant pride were currently lacking now and instill confidence back to our D. This man bleeds Giant Blue and would make an excellent candidate if given the opportunity. The Patriots are currently in the playoffs so we'll have to wait until there eliminated before making any talks regarding him. But it could be very well worth the wait. **********Automerged Doublepost********** Should've mentioned this as well. Any thoughts or opinions on this?
Well, love the idea of it from a sentimental standpoint, but is he the best man for the job? I really don't know. I do know I want someone fiery who chews butt.
