The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to keep Greg Schiano as head coach, despite his failure to win games with a talented team.

It's starting to look more and more likely that Greg Schiano will be the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014, regardless of the result against the New Orleans Saints today. Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that Schiano is safe (via JoeBucsFan), while Jay Glazer of FOX Sports also expects him to stay on. Peter King earlier this week said that he expected Greg Schiano to stay on as head coach.

If true, that is ridiculous. This head coach is now 10-21 and likely 10-22 later today over his tenure as a Tampa Bay head coach. He has that record despite having one of the most talented teams in recent memory. Despite the fact that the Glazers brought in multiple premium free agents in recent years. Despite the fact that he has two players who could make realistic bids to be named Defensive Player of the Year in Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David. And those losses came in large part thanks to the fact that Schiano has consistently mismanaged games, players and schemes.

Josh Freeman played poorly. But he only started three games, and Greg Schiano voluntarily took him on when he took this job and then again left him in place this year. He then replaced him with Mike Glennon, a quarterback he hand-picked -- and then continued to lose game after game. Meanwhile, backups Nick Foles, Josh McCown have little trouble producing, while coaches like Rex Ryan, Mike Munchak and Doug Marrone manage to get at least a few more wins out of their own low-talent, poorly-quarterbacked teams.

There's a glimmer of hope. Penn State could save the Glazers from themselves if they manage to tempt Greg Schiano into leaving Tampa, but that's a slim chance at best.

Apparently these are the days of complacency in Tampa. A team that has fired coaches after winning seasons (twice!) is now satisfied with an overbearing head coach who hasn't managed to crack .500 in his two years in charge. Congratulations, Glazers. You've successfully turned the Bucs into the Browns.
