While Steve Spurrier praises Clowney for his explosiveness, always having to deal with 2 or 3 offensive player on each play and just being a winner, he's been quite lukewarm when asked about Clowney's work ethic. Coming from his coach, that's kind of an indictment. Film even shows him taking plays off when the ball is away from him. I think the knock is fair when you're potentially going to be shelling out big $$. If all this was orchestrated by Clowney to avoid injury, job well done. Could Clowney be better if he worked hard at the game? Scary thought.

It could also be why he is a former GM.

The hard hat and lunch pale are nice to sell to a fan base of average joes, but superior ability is what builds winning teams

Julius Peppers was the same way. But he was so good when he was on, teams were stilk afraid of him when he was off

From all the reading I have done on this kid, I find it hard to believe he won't get drafted in the top 5. So if avoiding injury was the name of the game in his last year, I think he did a good job. He/his agent gambled on his freak athleticism and it worked.

Does anyone here see him not drafted in the top 5?

I'd be surprised if he fell past 5

I think it's possible he falls below 5. One scenario would be the 3 "top" QBs going to Houston,Jacksonville & Cleveland,Sammy Watkins to St.Louis, and Oakland taking an OT.It really depends on how teams judge the risk/reward with Clowney, and whether they are prepared to pay him the big dollars knowing that he may slack off.

Like a lot of gifted athletes, they just rely on the 1 strength. His is speed & until he gets humiliated by some decent OTs, no one will know if he'll hit the weights like he should in response.

He's a risk even with that sick speed...
