On the Calvin Johnson play, I agree that should be a catch. But the rules clearly state otherwise, I'm not saying I agree with the rules or that it makes 100% sense to me but all the refs can do is abide by the rules they are given. So yeah I feel a little dirty about this win but on the other hand not really. Screw it, my sports fan life has sucked recently so I'm not gonna look the gift horse in the mouth. However the Bears got a ton of crap to address on offense and I'm pretty pissed at my team right now. By all means we put ourselves in a position that we should have lost the game and I'm not happy about that at all. And yeah if I was a Lions fan I would be livid. So it is what is. 1-0 and moving on I suppose. :icon_cool:
a win is a win..... can complain about the calls as much as anyone wants but the record still stands bears won and lions lossed........
Wow just saw a replay of that BULLCRAP call. Anywhere else on the field that's a catch but not in the endzone?
Pretty sure that rule is the same anywhere on the field. Remember the Colts-Steelers playoff game where Polamalu intercepted a Manning pass and rolled on the ground and let go of the ball during the roll? Replay called that an incomplete pass at the time, same rule I'm pretty sure.
That was kind of like the end of that Raiders/Chargers game last year when they took a TD from Murphy
I'd like to know exactly how that "rule" is worded, or perhaps it was interpreted in a political manner. I'm a Bears fan through and through but always like to see a clean honest game no matter what the outcome, including no BS bad calls. Lions should have won.
I think the rule is if a receiver is going to the ground while making the catch, he has to keep control of the ball as he goes to the ground.
Rule 8, Section 1, Article 4. A play from start to finish is a process. When you go to the ground, even after you've caught the ball, you have to maintain possession. The rule states: If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete. ************************************************************************************** Which means that the Lions got screwed. He took 2 steps, had control all the way to the ground proving once again, that the NFL doesn't like Detroit.
For how long then? CJ had control of the ball when he contacted the ground then let go of the ball when he was getting up. Looks to me the refs can use this "rule" to their liking. :icon_rolleyes:
