Here is my 2nd mock draft. Let me know what you think. 1. Carolina Panthers DT Nick Fairley (Auburn) The Panthers have two huge needs: QB and DT. With QB Andrew Luck staying in college no QB is worth taking this high. Fairley is widely considered the best DT in the draft. He would provide the Panthers with a great guy to plug into the middle of the defense. We all saw how big of an impact Suh had on Detroit's D. 2. Denver Broncos DT Marcell Daureus (Alabama) This year they were 31st at stopping the run. Daureus has a ton of potential. He was injured most of this year but when healthy lived in opponent's backfields. With John Fox coming in as HC they will likely move to a 4-3 defense. That being said Daureus can still help in that defense. 3. Buffalo Bills OLB(3-4) Von Miller Texas a&m the Bills are desperate for a pass rush and a LB. They ranked 32nd in stopping the run and their leading sack leader had 5.5 sacks. 4. Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (UGA) I don't think they're going to give up on Carson Palmer yet. That will happen next year. T.O. and Ocho Cinco are free agents and the depth behind them is decent but not spectacular. 5. Arizona Cardinals OLB (3-4) Da'Quan Bowers Clemson This is the toughest of the top 5. They are desperate for some pass rush help as their current pass rushers have aged and need to be replaced. 6. Cleveland Browns DE Cameron Jordan Cal. I think Jordan will definitely appeal to the Browns. He can play in the 3-4 or the 4-3. He proved this week he is an elite player and should be great in whichever scheme the Bills use. 7. San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert (Missouri) Gabbert announced his plans to enter the draft today. He should be exactly what the 49ers are looking for. He is accurate and a smart guy. Assuming they hire Jim Harbaugh his offense DEMANDS intelligence on the field and off. 8. Tennessee Titans (my favorite team ) DE Robert Quinn North Carolina Yes, yes, I know this seems like a strange pick. It looks like Babin is gone, Ball and Ford are FA's, and that leaves just Derrick Morgan and William Hayes. I think it goes without saying that Hayes is best as a rotational guy. 9. Dallas Cowboys CB Patrick Peterson (LSU) Dallas secondary was awful last year. Newman was the best player in the secondary but is aging. Jenkins was awful so an insurance policy for him would be convenient. Peterson is also a MAJOR factor in the return game. Jerry Jones has said he won't take a CB and said he wants an OT. I think he is bluffing. Jerry is a smart guy and has proven time and time again that he can surprise. 10. Washington Redskins WR Julio Jones (Alabama) the Redskins have almost no weapons on offense. Jones will be a great help and has the potential to pair very well with Santana Moss. 11. Houston Texans CB Prince Amukamara Nebraska The Texans are jumping up and down here. Amukamara is a fantastic CB and would help fix one of the worst secondaries ever. The CB tandem of Amukamara and Kareem Jackson (Last year's 1st rounder) should be one to fear for years to come. 12. Minnesota Vikings QB Cam Newton Auburn Newton should fit in well with this strong running game. Newton is a true boom or bust pick with a ton of potential. 13. Detroit Lions OLB Akeem Ayers UCLA Ayers is a great OLB and Detroit is desperate for one. They can't seem to find good starters there. Ayers would be the great total package there with Levy on the inside. 14. St. Louis Rams DE Aldon Smith Missouri The Rams D requires constant pressure on the QB and the Rams need an elite pass rusher. With both great WR's on the clock the pick makes sense. Spagnulo usually likes pass rushers that are very athletic. 15. Miami Dolphins RB Mark Ingram (Alabama) Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both FA's. Neither was as effective as they've been in the past. 16. Jacksonville Jaguars DE Ryan Kerrigan Purdue The jaguars pass rush really needs a boost. Kampman tore his ACL yet again and Harvey has been a complete bust. 17. Oakland (N.E Patriots pick) DE J.J. Watt Wisconsin Watt should fit in very well in NE. Watt is a huge football player and has above avg. athleticism for a 3-4 DE. NE hasn't really replaced Richard Seymour and Watt would assist in that. 18. San Diego Chargers OT Gabe Carimi (Wisconsin) The Chargers have a weakness at RT. Carimi could be an elite option in the Chargers offense. They ranked 15th in rushing this past year and drafted RB Ryan Matthews last year. Carimi is a punishing run blocker. 19. New York Giants DT Corey Liguet (Illinois) Liguet is a great prospect. The Giants love alot of depth on the d.line and Liguet would assist in that especially considering they could lose Cofield and might cut Rocky Bernard. 20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Anthony Castonzo (Boston College) They are desperate for a DE but none are good enough that are left. They could use an OLB but again none are good enough here. I think they go with an OT. They need a RT and Penn isn't exactly the greatest LT. They could move Penn to RT and put the rookie at LT or put the rookie at RT. 21. Kansas City Chiefs DT Stephen Paea (Oregon St.) Paea would replace Ron Edwards, who is believed to be retiring, at NT in KC's 3-4 scheme. 22. Indianapolis Colts OT Nate Solder (Colorado) Solder, an ultimate boom or bust pick, should appeal to GM Bill Polian who loves athletic players. Polian has constantly criticized the o.line. 23. Philadelphia Eagles CB Brandon Harris (Miami Fl.) Harris is the latest stud CB from Miami. He should replace Dimitri Patterson well and move him to NB. 24. New Orleans Saints LB Martez Wilson (Illinois) Wilson can play both MLB and OLB. Wilson is very athletic and should move well in N.O. 25. Seattle Seahawks QB Jake Locker (Washington) Locker should fit in well in Seattle. He can take time to develop behind Matt Hasselbeck and Pete Carrol has shown he can wait and be patient with young QB's. 26. Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith (Maryland) Smith would give the team a downfield threat across from Boldin and relegate Mason to the slot. 27. Atlanta Falcons DE Justin Houston (UGA) Houston is a great DE and provides the Falcons with a true DE across from John Abraham. 28. New England Patriots WR Jon Baldwin (Pittsburgh) Baldwin would provide the team with yet another weapon. They showed they needed more weapons in their last playoff game. 29. Chicago Bears OT Tyron Smith (USC) Smith would fix the Bears biggest need. Chris Williams has been a big bust and the team seems ready to give up on him. Smith is very athletic and needs to put on some weight but should be a great value pick here. 30. New York Jets DE Craig Heyward (Ohio St.) Heyward would be a great addition for the Jets. They would get younger at the DE position and replace their mistake of Gholston. 31. Pittsburgh Steelers CB Aaron Williams (Texas) Williams is a great CB and should fit in well at CB for them. Williams would be a huge upgrade across from Ike Taylor. 32. Green Bay Packers SS Deandre Mcdaniel (Clemson) Mcdaniel is a fantastic player. He should immediately upgrade the Packers defense and be a great upgrade over current starter Charlie Peprah. feel free to give feedback.
Prince Amukamara is another over-rated CB that i'm sure the Texans might actually pick, but we would have done the same thing as last year. For anybody to say Prince and Kareem would be feared for years to come has to be the worst prediction of all time. Prince isn't in the top 5 CB's imo. and Torrey Smith is good but not in top 10 WR's probably a 4th rounder.
over-rated? Have you ever watched him play? no not really smart butt. Jackson just needs to be coached up. He was a rookie last year and I do think he has potential as long as the team gets a better pass rush. I think alot of the reasons the secondary struggled were: 1. No pass rush. 2. poor safety play 3. Jackson being a rookie and no true starting CB other than Jackson. isn't in the top 5 CB's? Are you insane? hahahahhahahha he is top 2 and there is a HUGE GAP between Peterson and Amukamara and then everyone else. Smith is a guy that will be drafted based on measurables and potential. A comparison I like is Demaryius Thomas from last year. A team took Thomas too early and they'll take Smith too early this year.
prince would be s*x in the texans defense....and dont give up on jackson either, the two of them could be great especially in a wade phillips defense i dont really like smith as a first rounder still.....if i was gonna compare a WR this year to demaryius thomas it would be baldwin (who imo is a 3rd round talent) few other things....i think we can get used to locker to washington as much as a reach as it might seem, they love him. i think paea might fall a bit deandre mcdaniel is not even close to a first rounder....and they have morgan burnett who they like but he got hurt between aaron williams and mike pouncey there would be a real hard choice for the steelers
Good mock, just 2 things up at the top. I doubt the Bills take another swing on a super-postseason-hyped undersized "pass-rush specialist" like Miller after striking out so recently with Maybin. They've got Merriman coming back, and while he's a huge question mark, theyve got $$ invested and he could theoretically be the passrusher they need. They've got enough holes that they dont need to be using such a high pick on such a risky player at a position of potentially marginal need. I don't see the 49ers going QB early. I'm sure Harbaughs confident enough in his ability to develop a qb that they take someone later. Ponder or Dalton possibly, or one of the higher rated prospects if they slip, which I have a feeling will happen to at least one of them. They're dying for secondary help and could use a passrusher as well. I think Quinns a great fir for them.
you can tell some1 who develops there own opinion and some1 who just listens to media. don't be so sensitive adammwilson, it's a pretty good mock I hope you get to update it in a week or 2.
I can appreciate that Crowned. really? mhhh I hadn't heard that I'll definitely keep that in mind. Agreed on Paea. I think in my next mock I'll replace Paea with the guy from Baylor. why would he not be a 1st rounder? Burnett is a FS. agreed. I really did think about Pouncey there but I just think they needed a CB worse and thought Williams would be fantastic value.
They need 2 pass rushers though imho. I can definitely see how you could compare Maybin and Miller but I think Miller is a guy that has been producing for years. I appreciate that. I also thought about giving them a passrusher or CB. I just think Gabbert is a great fit for harbaugh's offense. It will be a wait and see thing imho.
well I hope you realize that I develop my own opinions. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent looking at all the draft prospects and Amukamara was one of the best I've seen. I'm not being sensitive I'm just completely baffled by your previous comments that you still haven't explained.
Ozzie has always been a value, bpa type of guy, even if he liked smith he wouldnt dare take him at 26, especially with Houston still on the board. Miller i think would be a huge gamble at 3, really good mock tho, i know its difficult doing of these this far away, everything is so fluid.
Im one of the few people that think Petterson at 9 is very possible. Not likley, but very possible. You have to look at the need for DL and QB's amoung the top 10 teams to realize it
For the record, I think if SF takes Gabbert with Peterson still on the board, I may just start to cry a little. I really have not seen anything in Gabbert that I'm really that impressed with yet, though that is admitedly through a small sampling of research. Also, I would be surprised if Locker goes in the first. Wouldn't be suprised to see Ponder taken before him.
I also don't think NE would go WR in the first round. Who do you displace? Woodhead plays well in fill in, Welker is a stud, the Brady-Branch connection is solid, and the two TEs are a great asset. I could see another LB, DB, or a versitile RB. Don't be surprised if the go OL either with some contract troubles, or if they trade down out of the first. I don't know that Newton is the right guy in Min. Wonder if they would look to a project guy as they clearly feel they are close to the championship now. Could see them focus more on floor than ceiling. Finally, I like the Bills pick there. Can't pass on a good player and good fit cause you recently drafted a heck up. A need is a need, and I don't think an NFL GM will shy away just because of that.
IMO Prince has good instincts that can make a player really special, but he doesn't have the speed to cover a NFL receiver. I would be surprised if he runs a 4.50 40 time at the combine. He may be the best Safety in this draft, but if he runs sub 4.50 at the combine I would be shocked.
Yeah I would too. I think he has alot of potential and wouldn't be surprised if he is scooped up by Seattle. I would. Ponder has some problems physically with his arm. That elbow may be shot so teams will definitely want to check that out at the combine. Also alot of scouts are concerned with his college numbers and saying he isn't a "winner".
with the Pats I don't think they really displace anyone they just replace Moss. Keep Woodhead at RB only, leave Welker/ Branch alone. I could definitely see them taking a LB but didn't see any that were worthy of a 1st rounder at their pick. I can't really see them going DB as that's what they did last year. With RB I've heard they love Mark Ingram but I think the Fins will snatch him and right now I'm not sure teams think another RB is worth a 1st. However, I have a STRONG feeling that will change after the combine. I'm not sure which of the current 2nd round guys it will be but I think one will distinguish himself. Agreed they could easily go O.line. Light (LT) is a FA as is Mankins. I think he is. He is athletic and has a strong arm and would get fans excited in the team. I think they have pretty much given up on win now mode. According to most they seem to be in rebuilding mode. It seems Frazier wants a young Qb to work with and they apparently won't be resigning Pat Williams. I don't see any other QB's in the 1st they'd be interested in except for Newton/ Gabbert. agreed especially not one like Buddy Nix. I mean shoot he seems to go BPA (Hence the Spiller pick last year)
I think that's garbage. He plays alot faster than he will time and I think he will time around a 4.5. Even if he does it's definitely not the end of the world crap look at Joe Haden.
