Jay Cutler looked shaky again and the defense made up for it, harassing Philip Rivers early on and setting the tone for the Chicago Bears in a 33-28 victory over the San Diego Chargers in a preseason game on Thursday night.

All eyes remain on the quarterback after the Bears made some big changes on offense in the offseason, hiring coach Marc Trestman to replace Lovie Smith and revising their line.

So far, the results are mixed at best.

Cutler played a quarter and completed 4-of-5 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown, but the only receiver he targeted was Brandon Marshall.

Yea, Cutler doing rookie BS like staring down receivers, lackadaisical INT. Still early but WTF...

The OL still needs work but there were quite a few encouraging signs especially from Long/Mills.

Offense so-so but still made some impressive plays. Great Forte run, crushing blocks by FB Fiammetta.

Also great to see that the D is still hard hitting ball hawks without LS. Lotta great plays tonight. DL looked fast & nasty even without Peppers/Melton.

Hester, exclusively returning again, showing signs of that sandlot kid cutting to daylight. That alone is worth a ton of great FP for this offense.

So yea, mixed bag but a lot of positives to feel better as a Bear fan than years gone bye. Not all about 1 player (Cutler) but a sum of all parts. I'd say headed in the right direction.
