Campbell ran an extremely impressive 4.76 40 unofficially and his vert looked equally impressive as well. I'd say it was between 36-38 inches. He is not going to escape the Top 15, despite his injury issues and his limited experience at the college level.
I'm not sure he would shoot up that high among the draft boards, especailly over Okung and Bulaga. But Campbell's upside is intriguing and would be an ideal replacement for Walter Jones. Campbell looks every bit of the part what an elite NFL left tackle should look like: Size, Strength, Speed, Quickness, he has it all. He has very quick feet, those Terrapin's in recent years have produced physical specimens. Campbell started 17 games at Maryland and is coming off toe and knee injuries. If he had more starting experience, he would be a sure fire Top 5 selection. But Campbell could still very well be taken within the top 12. I love his upside too however, he is a monster.
I have him over Bulaga as a LT - although I think Bulaga will be an all-pro RT or G. Okung I have in the top 5 (Washington or Kansas City). No way Campbell makes it past the Raiders now, Al Davis probably crap the bed after seeing his 4.78 at 314 lbs.
Yeah, Campbell is a beast physically and athletically. Very impressive. Trent Williams has also been impressive as an athlete, great feet.
Yeah, Williams did great too, and looks good on film. The thing that worries me though, is the question "Is he going to be manhandled by bigger defensive linemen?", because his upper-body strength seems to lack something. Still, I think he is a great fit as a pure LT vs the speed rusher.
His official time is 4.85, still an impressive mark. Yeah, I wouldn't put it pass me either if Undead Al took him #8 overall. I'll say this however, if Campbell had returned for his senior season at Maryland and was healthy, he would probably be the #1 pick in the 2011 Draft. He has the physical markup, he just lacks experience and had nagging injuries.
Gotta love the Combine's extended coverage. The first day concluded on NFL Network, but its still ongoing at NFL.com. The Tight Ends are doing the broad jumps atm.
Bryan Bulaga. Shorter arms limit LT potential. Trent Williams didn't fare so well on the bench (24 reps) so that could (probably won't) hurt his stock. I think Eric Olsen helped himself as well. He looked like a brick craphouse at the combine. He's wide-bodied and muscular, would make a great guard or center (and can play both)
I like Olsen alot, however I dont see him as an intimidate starter type at either spot. I think he is a great mid rounder however
He is pretty raw, but he has great strength and being a Notre Dame guy, a great work ethic. I'd happily take him in the third round for any scheme and he could start after a season or two.
I honestly think Anthony Davis could be the faller of the OT's, he looked real sluggish in all the speed/agility drills and of what I saw of the other drills, didn't look too hot there either. Wasn't massively impressed with Bulaga either, especially as a LT prospect.
I've never been a Davis fan, because I think power is overrated at the tackle position. It can come in handy, but it's usually at the detriment of finesse or agility.
Exactly, and in ths league, the running game is nowhere near as important as it used to be. At the tackle position you need to be able to deal with speed rushers and from that showing there's no way he could do that in the left tackle position, and honestly, who is going to throw a top 10/15 pick at a one dimensional right tackle prospect?
