The Green Bay Packers have released linebacker A.J. Hawk, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Hawk (6-1, 247) was the sixth overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, and has led the Packers in tackles in three (2006, 2008, 2010) of the last five seasons, ranking second in the other two. In 80 games, including 77 starts, Hawk has 510 tackles, 9 quarterback sacks, 8 interceptions, 23 passes defensed, and a pair of forced fumbles. Hawk earned $4.123 million in 2010, and was due to earn $10 million or the equivalent of the franchise tag, guaranteed, if he were on the Packers' roster at the start of the 2011 league year. The franchise tag for linebackers is projected to be worth nearly $10.2 million, but the Oakland Raiders used the "exclusive" franchise tag on Kamerion Wimbley, which is reportedly worth $11.3 million. heck...then bring his butt in. it'd be awesome to solve 2 problems in our defense before the draft....then we could make a serious run at ingram
In most of these cases they have to be signing these LB's long-term. If they don't, they could be in trouble. The biggest winner imo was Ryan Kalil. He's potentially going to make left tackle money for playing center if he doesn't get signed long-term...
