Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he expects Cam Newton to start at quarterback for Sunday's game against Detroit after missing the season opener because of a rib injury. Newton was declared inactive for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay just prior to kickoff after being a limited participant in practice last week because of a fractured rib he sustained during the preseason. Rivera said the Panthers will employ the same strategy as last week, with Newton expected to practice all week before a final determination is made. The Sports Network
