The New England Patriots tried out center Jake Grove on Tuesday, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Grove signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent last year after being drafted in the second round by the Raiders out of Virginia Tech in 2004. Cut by the Dolphins on Sept. 9, Grove has been trying out for teams. He tried out for the Baltimore Ravens, Raiders and Detroit Lions this season. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound former consensus All-American and Rimington Trophy award winner didn't live up to expectations with the Dolphins after signing a five-year, $29 million contract on March 2, 2009 that included $14.5 million in guaranteed money.
