Matt Cassel became a starting quarterback in Kansas City after backing up Tom Brady for most of his time in New England. He went 10-5 as a Patriots starter after Brady suffered a season-ending knee injury in the first week of the 2008 season. Now a member of the Vikings, he is expected to be the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Christian Ponder. Cassel said he had a big role in Tom Brady's development with the Patriots, Bob Sansavere of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports.

"I taught Tom everything. I thought he really started to flourish after I got there," Cassel said laughing. "A lot of people don't understand how much time we spend together. It's important to be together and be good teammates. And when you have a good (quarterback) room, it makes everybody better in the room. That's what it's all about."

Ok so obvisouly he's half joking.... Honestly people don't realize how important back ups can be. Why do you think the niners kept Tolzien over Johnson? Johnson was clearly the better athlete and probably a better qb but Tolzien was better for preparing.
