NASCAR's premier event, the season-opening Daytona 500, is being delayed by rain.Heavy showers drenched the famed speedway Sunday afternoon, sending fans scattering for cover and leaving everyone in wait-and-see mode.Radar shows little relief in sight, too."It's one of those days here in Daytona where it pops up and falls off and pops up and falls off," NASCAR president Mike Helton said. "But as the day progresses, we think the chances of the pop-ups diminish quite a bit. Hopefully this will be the last big cell we see and things will start falling apart and we can get the track dry and go on and get finish and run the Daytona 500 today."NASCAR officials pushed back the start of the race shortly before the green flag was scheduled to drop. They're on the air for five and a half hours, then tell us the race has been postponed until tomorrow.:icon_frown:
I was really looking forward to this. Wanted to see how Danica Patrick does. Now I gotta work and wont be able to see it which sucks
do you drive as fast as them and take a left turn every other second? over and over and over? I didn't watch it not even God wanted to see John Cena start up this thing
It's been pushed back to around 7pm now. It's still raining down there but they're hoping it will stop later.
This race may happen on Tuesday lol at this rate I wouldn't be shocked. I am a little pissed cause I cleared my schedule at noon to watch this.
What a clusterheck of a Daytona 500. 2 rain delays, and now a jet dryer explosion causing a long red flag. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come this season.
Looks like there isn't any significant damage to the track. Just waiting for them to get it clean and dried off.
