Off the field, quarterback Drew Brees has lent his voice to another cause. New Orleans Saints players, including [Brees], as well as Pelicans center Jason Smith, issued statements Thursday (May 15) opposing legislation pending in the Louisiana Legislature they say would reduce injury benefits for professional athletes. The National Football League Players Association says the proposed law change would hurt players finically if they get injured, especially during the off-season. ... [Brees:] "(House) Bill 1069 is not good for Saints players, not good for our team or other sports teams in Louisiana and not good for our state.
