Scouts Believe Bills LB Shawne Merriman Is "Done" As A Pass Rusher

  1. Scouts around the league believe Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman is done after watching injuries rob the three-time Pro Bowler of the skills that once made him one of the most dominant pass rushers in the game. Merriman has suited up for only 18 games over the past three seasons due to an assortment of knee, ankle and calf injuries. The nature of his injuries would concern many teams, but the Bills have extensive knowledge of Merriman's situation due to general manager Buddy Nix's previous stint as the assistant general manager for the San Diego Chargers. Nix was part of the staff that drafted Merriman 12th overall in 2005, and the former Maryland star responded by posting 39 sacks over a three-year period. Since the injuries have taken a toll, however, Merriman has not been the same dominant force off the edge and has amassed only four sacks over the past three seasons, and he looks nothing like an impact player off the edge.

if he could get healthy i could see him playing on the inside...i remember his first game as a pro, it was against the steelers and it was like week 4 of his rookie year, first time he ever suited up and he was amazing, like legit incredible.

it was really looking like he was going to be the all time sack leader in record time for a while

once that dude got off the roids his pass rush slowed, even when healthy.

Really? I think it was the injury he suffered what made him special was his explosive first step.Once that was gone he didn't do much.

the injury and the steroids are certainly directly linked together, his muscles and ligiments were worn out from the extra bulk and work load they were able to endure during his training and without the roids he never had the ability to heal properly cause his system was so hecked up....he'll probably have joint and muscle problems for ever.

he was special because of brute strength and his relentlessness in his pass rush, he NEVER had good pass rush moves and never needed them, he could probably still be solid if he ever refined his skills but he was a man among boys when he was on roids

The cheap shot by the Titans was the start of his decline, never looked the same ever since. Kind of like what happened to Lavar Arrington. We'll see how much longer he'll be able to milk pay checks without doing anything.

Without the roids he would still be a solid player, wouldn't be the elite player he was during his prime but still good enough to start.

He had a good year in 2007 off the roids

Im inthe same boat as K Train with him. The roids pretty much broke him more then they made him. Good even pro bowl pass rusher as a legit talent, but the roids made him a god
